Johannesburg, South Africa – Miss South Africa finalist, Chidimma Adetshina, has vehemently denied claims linking her to a Nigerian man who has been falsely identified as her father in a viral video. The 23-year-old, currently in the top 11 of the Miss South Africa 2024 competition, has been at the center of a social media storm over her citizenship and heritage.

Adetshina, born in 2001, is the daughter of a Nigerian father and a South African mother with Mozambican roots. Despite facing xenophobic attacks, she has remained steadfast in her identity.

The controversy escalated when a video circulated online featuring a Nigerian man married to a South African woman. The man detailed his immigration history to South Africa, arriving in 2010 for the FIFA World Cup, a timeline that contradicts Adetshina’s age.

Social media users erroneously linked the man’s surname to Adetshina’s, sparking widespread speculation. However, the Miss SA finalist took to Instagram to unequivocally dismiss the claims, stating, “The individual in question claiming and impersonating to be my dad is NOT MY FATHER.”

While the origins of the misinformation remain unclear, the incident has ignited a heated online debate. Despite the ordeal, Adetshina has received unwavering support from public figures including DJ Prince Kaybee and former Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse.
