Abidjan (dpa) – German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has completed her visit to Côte d’Ivoire, the second stop of her West Africa tour following a visit to Senegal. During her trip, Baerbock visited an international counter-terrorism academy in Côte d’Ivoire, which Germany supports with 2.5 million euros. This academy also serves as a training facility for Germany’s special police unit GSG9.

In a press conference with Côte d’Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara, Baerbock called on the military governments of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso to protect their populations from violence amidst ongoing conflicts with Islamist militias. President Ouattara expressed concerns about a potential mass exodus from these nations, highlighting that Côte d’Ivoire is already sheltering 60,000 refugees from Burkina Faso.
