Lusaka, Zambia – Zambia has expressed gratitude to SADC member states for their support during its chairmanship of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe conveyed the country’s appreciation at the closing of the 26th Ministerial Committee of the Organ meeting.
Haimbe commended Namibia for its support during Zambia’s tenure and pledged Zambia’s backing as Tanzania assumes the chairmanship in August. He also thanked all member states for their contributions to regional peace and security.
The minister highlighted positive developments in the region, including successful elections in several countries and the deployment of the SADC Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC) to address security challenges. While acknowledging the need for increased support for SAMIDRC, Haimbe praised member states already contributing to the mission.

Meanwhile, the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) is set to complete its withdrawal on July 15th after significant gains against insurgents in Cabo Delgado province. The minister expressed hope that the Mozambican government and its partners will continue to build on SAMIM’s achievements to eliminate the threat.
Haimbe expressed optimism about the outcomes of the ministerial meeting and anticipates favorable consideration of the recommendations by SADC Heads of State and Government at the upcoming summit in Harare, Zimbabwe.
