Afrobeats musician Patoranking is leveraging his success to empower the next generation of African tech leaders. Through his Patoranking Foundation, he partnered with tech training provider ALX Africa to launch a $500,000 (over R9 million) scholarship program.
This initiative aims to equip 40 talented young Africans across the continent with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the tech industry. Scholarship recipients will gain access to high-quality programs in data analysis, cloud computing, and Salesforce administration – all crucial areas in today’s digital landscape.
“Our goal is to nurture these young minds and equip them with the tools they need to drive positive change in their communities,” Patoranking said. “We envision them undertaking developmental projects that contribute to Africa’s sustainable growth.”
The scholarship program aligns with ALX Africa’s mission to bridge the digital skills gap in Africa. Divesh Sooka, General Manager at ALX South Africa, believes this initiative will foster innovation and equip young people to address the continent’s youth unemployment crisis.
Patoranking’s philanthropic efforts stem from a personal commitment to giving back. “Having experienced hardship myself, I understand the challenges faced by those in need,” he shared. He started the foundation as a personal vow to empower others, and with the support of his team, has grown it into a force for positive change.
Balancing his music career with philanthropy requires dedication, but Patoranking embraces the challenge. “Whenever the foundation needs me, I’m there,” he affirms. “By integrating conversations about the foundation into my music business, I can effectively manage both passions.”
