Lesotho’s Ministry of Trade and Business Development took center stage at the recent Aid for Trade Global Review in Geneva, Switzerland. The event, themed “Mainstreaming Trade and Development Strategies: Food Security, Digital Connectivity and Mainstreaming,” highlighted the crucial role of digitalization in boosting cross-border trade.
Mr. Thabo Moleko, Principal Secretary in the Ministry, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the multifaceted role digitalization plays in trade. He explained how increased digital connectivity and trade digitalization streamline trade processes, making them easier to navigate and predict. This, in turn, reduces costs and opens doors to new markets for Lesotho’s businesses.
Moleko further underscored the potential of digital technologies to accelerate the implementation of the World Trade Organization’s Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA). This agreement aims to streamline customs procedures and other border regulations, ultimately facilitating smoother trade flows.
