Nigerian superstar Burna Boy delivered a powerful and electrifying performance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2024, showcasing his signature Afro-fusion sound and infectious energy.

Drawing inspiration from Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, who headlined the same stage 40 years prior, Burna Boy took the crowd on a journey through his vast catalog of hits. Clad in a cowboy hat and double denim, he opened with the familiar “Location,” a collaboration with British rapper Dave, immediately inciting a singalong from the audience.

The energy remained high throughout the set, with Burna Boy’s band, the Outsiders, providing a vibrant backdrop of clashing cymbals, talking drums, and soaring saxophone melodies. Backup singers added beautiful layers of harmony to Burna Boy’s distinctive baritone, particularly on tracks like “For My Hand.”

Despite a more stripped-down production compared to his usual extravagant shows, Burna Boy excelled at captivating the audience. He interacted playfully, dividing the crowd into sections for a friendly sing-off and radiating a contagious warmth that transcended the cool night air.

Fans were treated to a variety of hits, including “On The Low,” “Talibans II,” and his infectious remix of the global smash “Jerusalema.” A special highlight was a previously unreleased remix of YG Marley’s reggae track “Praise Jah In The Moonlight,” hinting at a potential future release.

The set culminated in a rousing rendition of his recent hit “Last Last,” with the crowd echoing the viral “igbo and shayo” hook. Though the hour-long slot left some wanting more, Burna Boy undeniably proved his place as a global music force and a potential future Glastonbury headliner.
