Harare, Zimbabwe – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) will convene its 44th Ordinary Summit in the Zimbabwean capital on August 17, 2024. The summit, headlined by the theme “Promoting Innovation to unlock opportunities for sustained economic growth and development towards an Industrialised SADC,” will see regional leaders chart a course for the future of the economic bloc.
The annual summit brings together Heads of State and Government from all 16 SADC member nations: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Observers from continental and regional bodies are also expected to attend.
Prior to the summit, senior officials and the SADC Council of Ministers will convene to lay the groundwork for the leaders’ discussions. The Council of Ministers, comprised of ministerial representatives from each member state, plays a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of SADC and ensuring effective policy implementation.
