The Republic of Congo has expressed interest in joining the BRICS economic alliance or at least forging stronger ties with the group, according to President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
In a recent interview with Sputnik news agency, President Sassou Nguesso pointed to the growing membership and the BRICS+ format for expanding cooperation as reasons for his country’s interest. “There’s an open prospect for joining, and several countries have already done so,” he said. “Congo would be interested” in exploring this path.
This interest comes alongside Congo’s need for substantial funding for major infrastructure projects. Earlier this month, Minister of Planning Ingrid Olga Ghislaine Ebouka-Babackas highlighted the potential of the newly established BRICS+ investment bank to provide the necessary capital.
The BRICS group, which currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has emerged as a significant economic force on the global stage. The BRICS+ format allows for collaboration with other developing nations.
