President Hakainde Hichilema announced on June 27, 2024, that Zambia will receive a $68 million aid package from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to address the ongoing drought, enhance long-term food security, and build resilience across various sectors.
The announcement came during a courtesy visit by USAID Deputy Administrator Ms. Isobel Coleman to State House. President Hichilema expressed gratitude to the U.S. government and USAID for their timely assistance.
President Hichilema emphasized the importance of reinforcing the longstanding partnership between Zambia and the United States, which is founded on promoting the rule of law and strengthening democratic values. He also thanked the American people for their support and acknowledged their cooperation with other international partners in responding to Zambia’s emergency appeal.
