South Sudan, UN Vow Stronger Collaboration

Juba, June 11, 2024 (MFA&IC) – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba, co-chaired a meeting with Anita Kiki Gbeho, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and the Resident Coordinator, to discuss priorities and entry points to bolster the UN Development and Humanitarian system in South Sudan.
Juba, June 11, 2024 (MFA&IC) – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba, co-chaired a meeting with Anita Kiki Gbeho, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and the Resident Coordinator, to discuss priorities and entry points to bolster the UN Development and Humanitarian system in South Sudan.

Juba, South Sudan – June 11, 2024 – South Sudan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba, and the UN Deputy Special Representative and Resident Coordinator, Ms. Anita Kiki Gbeho, co-chaired a key meeting on Tuesday.

The high-level discussions focused on strengthening the partnership between South Sudan’s government and the UN Development and Humanitarian system. Both parties explored ways to improve joint efforts in tackling critical challenges facing the country.

Deputy Minister Kumba expressed his gratitude for the UN’s unwavering support for the people of South Sudan. He emphasized the importance of regular dialogue in effectively addressing shared obstacles on the path to peace and prosperity.

“Our government, the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity, remains firmly committed to achieving lasting peace and transforming our society,” stated Amb. Kumba. “To fulfill our aspirations for a brighter future, we must maintain and reinforce close collaboration between the UN and all government institutions.”

Ms. Gbeho, representing the UN, reaffirmed the organization’s long-standing commitment to South Sudan and its dedication to working hand-in-hand with the government. She acknowledged the ongoing humanitarian challenges faced by both refugees and local populations, while commending the government’s support for the Sudanese people.

“This meeting signifies a new chapter in our engagement,” Ms. Gbeho emphasized. “We aim to be a true partner to South Sudan, and we’re committed to finding better ways to work together towards a more stable and prosperous future.”

Undersecretaries from various ministries and other government officials also participated in the discussions, underscoring the government’s commitment to a collaborative approach with the UN.
