The U.S. Embassy in Luanda announced the official launch of the “Program to Support Political Parties for a Resilient and Inclusive Democracy” (POPRID) on June 5th. The program, funded with $10 million by USAID Southern Africa, aims to bolster Angola’s democratic system by supporting political parties.
POPRID, developed in partnership with Angolan parliamentary parties and the Angolan government, seeks to foster a strong and dynamic democracy. The program’s launch ceremony was attended by the Business Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, Mrs. Mea Arnold, alongside senior Angolan government officials and representatives from Angolan political parties.
This initiative extends beyond Angola’s borders. POPRID also aims to support democratic development in Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, and South Africa, promoting representative multiparty systems and ensuring political parties better serve their citizens’ needs.
