Togo and Barbados are forging closer ties, with a visit by Barbados’ Economy Minister Chad Blackman paving the way for increased cooperation. Blackman’s trip to Lomé on May 16th focused on fostering collaboration in promising sectors, aligning with Barbados’ aim of expanding economic ties with Africa.
Discussions between Blackman and Togo’s Foreign Minister, Robert Dussey, covered matters of mutual interest, both bilateral and international. This high-level meeting laid the groundwork for a legal framework governing the evolving relationship between the two nations. A memorandum of understanding on political consultations between their foreign ministries is expected to be signed imminently.
In a move to boost trade, Togo announced the removal of visa requirements for Barbadian citizens. This visa waiver, revealed by Togolese diplomats during Blackman’s visit, aims to streamline business and travel between the two countries.
Barbados, an independent island nation in the Caribbean and a member of the Commonwealth, sees this development as a chance to strengthen its economic presence in Africa.
