Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered a keynote address at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit on May 14th, 2024. The two-day summit, organized by the Alliance of Democracies, brought together world leaders and democracy advocates to discuss the future of democratic governance.
President Akufo-Addo’s speech, titled “Election Year 2024, the People’s Vote and Democratic Aspiration,” focused on the importance of free and fair elections in maintaining a healthy democracy. He was joined by Ghana’s Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and Danish Ambassador to Ghana Tom Nørring.
The Alliance of Democracies, founded by former Danish Prime Minister and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, aims to strengthen democracies worldwide. They achieve this by fostering cooperation between nations with shared democratic values, countering threats to democracy, and supporting nations on their path to democratization. The organization also champions the use of technology to enhance democratic processes.
