Johannesburg, South Africa – Wits University and the Liberty Group have joined forces to launch a new Fintech Hub, a collaborative space designed to foster innovation in the financial technology sector. Located at the Liberty Group campus in Braamfontein, the Hub will serve as a meeting point for researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals.

“The Fintech Hub is a space where individuals can tackle real-world problems and develop solutions for the future of finance, data science, and artificial intelligence,” said Professor Jason Cohen, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management at Wits.

The Hub complements existing initiatives at Wits, including the launch of the FirstRand Foundation Chair in Financial Data Science. This focus on Fintech education aims to equip students with the latest technologies and knowledge, ensuring they are industry-ready upon graduation.

Professor Chimwemwe Chipeta, Head of the Finance Division at Wits and Director of the Fintech Hub, highlights the significance of Fintech research in Africa. He emphasizes the need to leverage technology for financial inclusion and develop regulatory frameworks that promote innovation while protecting consumers.
