Juba, South Sudan – The South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed optimism following a high-level meeting with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
The meeting, held on May 15th, 2024, focused on fostering stronger collaboration between the government and UNMISS. Hon. Ambassador John Samuel Bwogo, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, opened the forum by highlighting its importance in facilitating smoother and more productive discussions.
Both parties acknowledged critical issues and explored avenues for further cooperation. UNMISS Deputy Secretary-General’s Special Representative Guang Cong pledged the mission’s continued support for the South Sudanese government. He specifically mentioned progress made in meeting benchmarks for lifting the arms embargo on the government.
Discussions also addressed taxation and freedom of movement. The meeting concluded with a commitment to establish a Technical Working Group dedicated to finding solutions to these pressing matters.
