Nigerian Artist Runs on Creativity in 100-Hour Painting Marathon

Atlanta, GA – Fueled by passion and ambition, Nigerian art student Chancellor Ahaghotu has etched his name in the record books with a staggering 100-hour painting marathon, shattering the decade-old record of 60 hours.

Ahaghotu, a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design, embarked on this creative odyssey not just for the title but to catapult his artistic journey onto a global stage. “Breaking the record will boost my recognition as an artist both in my school and the world at large,” he declared before diving headfirst into his artistic endurance test.

Over four days, Ahaghotu’s brush danced across canvases, giving birth to 106 vibrant works. From portraits of captivating faces to feasts for the eyes, his brushstrokes captured the essence of celebrities, food, nature, and everything in between. At the 60-hour mark, when the previous record crumbled under his tireless strokes, he immortalized the moment with a poignant image of a broken record player.

Each creation, Ahaghotu explained, was a reflection of his evolving emotions during this epic feat. “One thing I love about the paintings I created is that they represent my different moods and how I was feeling when I created them,” he revealed.

The rules of this marathon were strict. Every continuous hour earned him a five-minute respite – his only chance for bathroom breaks, sustenance, and fleeting snatches of sleep. At the 88-hour mark, fatigue threatened to derail him, but Ahaghotu’s determination remained unwavering. He had come too far to give up.

Initially armed with 100 pre-sketched canvases, Ahaghotu’s artistic fire burned brighter than anticipated. He devoured them before the clock ran out, leading him to create impromptu still lifes and finishing with a poignant self-portrait of an exhausted artist.

“There was joy and celebration when I completed the 100 hours,” Ahaghotu recalled, the emotion still resonating in his voice. “This was a new experience for me, and I’m so glad I completed it.”

Beyond the personal triumph, Ahaghotu sees this achievement as a stepping stone to a larger vision. “This record helps me feel a very high level of personal achievement, build up my career as a reputable artist, and pay a service to my school and country,” he stated with pride.

Nigerian art student Chancellor Ahaghotu has broken a decade-old record for the longest painting marathon.
