The Department of State Services (DSS) has officially confirmed that Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is currently in their custody for investigative purposes. This confirmation was made in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, on Saturday.

The statement released by the DSS read, “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is now in its custody for some investigative reasons. The public, particularly the media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”

This revelation comes after hours of speculation and conflicting reports regarding Emefiele’s whereabouts. Earlier, the DSS had refuted claims that the former CBN governor was in their custody. In a brief statement issued on Saturday morning, Afunanya had stated, “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”

The sudden disclosure of Emefiele’s detention has sent shockwaves through the country, sparking intense interest and speculation among the public. As one of Nigeria’s most prominent financial figures, Emefiele’s suspension and subsequent arrest have raised significant questions and concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding his case.

The DSS’s caution to the media and the public to exercise restraint in reporting and narrating this development reflects the sensitivity and complexity of the ongoing investigation. As more details unfold, it is imperative for accurate and responsible reporting to prevail, ensuring that the facts are presented without causing undue panic or spreading misinformation.

The reasons for Emefiele’s arrest and the specific nature of the ongoing investigation have yet to be disclosed by the DSS. Nigerians eagerly await further updates and official statements to shed light on this high-profile case that has captured national attention.
