Chef Damilola Adeparusi’s Cooking Marathon Attempt Sparks Mixed Reactions

Twitter users have taken to the platform to express their opinions regarding Ekiti State chef Damilola Adeparusi’s ambitious goal of surpassing Hilda Baci’s 100-hour cooking marathon achieved in Lekki, Lagos State.

Adeparusi has set her sights on a remarkable 120-hour cooking marathon, aiming to break the yet-to-be-certified record set by Hilda Baci. Currently, friends and well-wishers surround Adeparusi, eagerly tasting the array of meals she prepares.

Hilda Baci’s potential certification would dethrone the current world record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who completed 87 hours and 45 minutes of uninterrupted cooking in 2019.

The online response to Adeparusi’s endeavor has been a mix of criticism and support. Some internet users view her attempt as sabotaging the achievements of a fellow countrywoman. Daniel Regha commented, “Anyone supporting the Ekiti cookathon is an enemy of progress. Yes, competition is a good thing, and records are meant to be broken, but trying to stop someone’s success is evil. Hilda should receive a Guinness World Records certificate first before anyone plans to do a cookathon.”

On the other hand, some users have hailed Adeparusi for aiming to achieve such a significant feat. Ibrahim Showa noted a perceived double standard, stating, “Can you see the double standard? Hilda Baci Cookathon: They hail her; they make it a crime not to support her. Dammy in Ekiti is doing hers, and they are mocking and laughing at her.”

Amidst the online discussions, individuals have expressed varying perspectives. While some criticize Adeparusi’s choice of location and the type of food she is cooking, others celebrate her determination. Ehi Enabs expressed distaste, stating, “I’m seeing people coming up with valid and thoughtful criticisms of that Ekiti cooking thing, and it’s like you people are good oh. Me I’m hating because it’s razz. The setup is ugly. Food is ugly. Cooking utensils are ugly too. And it’s okay to hate because something is razz.”

Despite the debates, several netizens have sent well wishes to Adeparusi on her quest to break the cooking marathon record. Sola Mathew voiced support, saying, “Everyone deserves to do whatever makes them happy and put their foot into the map of the world. I’m rooting for you.”

While opinions on Adeparusi’s endeavor remain divided, it is clear that her determination has sparked discussions and generated interest among online communities. As her cooking marathon progresses, all eyes will be on Adeparusi’s journey towards potentially setting a new record.
