The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has announced the names of the 57 Nigerians who have been selected for the 2023 cohort of the Mandela Washington Fellowship program. This program, which was launched in 2014, is the flagship initiative of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and represents the United States’ commitment to investing in the future of Africa.

The Fellowship program includes academic coursework, leadership training, and networking opportunities. The Fellows will travel to 28 cities across the United States from June 21 to August 4 to participate in Leadership Institutes hosted by American colleges and universities. The program will culminate with a Leadership Summit in Washington D.C., where the Fellows will meet with top U.S. government officials and private sector leaders.

During a pre-fellowship orientation reception, Charge d’Affaires David Greene expressed his excitement for the program and the potential impact it will have on the Fellows. “The U.S. Mission is committed to supporting Nigerian youth and providing them opportunities to reach their full potential, especially our Mandela Washington Fellows. We look forward to working with you in the future to deepen the relationship between the United States and Nigeria,” he said.

Since the inception of the program in 2014, over 500 young leaders from Nigeria have participated in the Mandela Washington Fellowship. The U.S. Mission in Nigeria is proud to announce the 2023 cohort of Fellows and looks forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on their communities and Nigeria as a whole.
