Abibiman Publishing UK, a leading publisher of African literature, is thrilled to announce the UK release of “The Nigerian Mafia: Mumbai,” a gripping and novelistic opus by acclaimed Nigerian writer and filmmaker, Onyeka Nwelue. This highly anticipated book is the first installment of a 10-book series set in 10 different countries and narrated by a Nollywood actor.

Nwelue, known for his prolific writing and award-winning books, as well as his work as a filmmaker, publisher, talk-show host, and bookseller, has garnered critical acclaim for his unique and thought-provoking storytelling. “The Nigerian Mafia: Mumbai” has already been awarded the 2021 Crime Fiction Lovers award for Best Indie Novel and the 2021 ANA Prose Prize, and has been a favorite at film festivals, winning Best Feature Film by a Director.

The story follows Uche Mbadiegwu, an unreliable Nigerian actor, who travels from Lagos to Mumbai in search of fame and fortune. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Periwinkle, and he finds himself embroiled in a dangerous world of violence, drugs, human trafficking, murder, and sex. As Uche navigates the challenges of being a Nigerian in Mumbai, constantly evading the Indian police and narcotics agents, he becomes entangled in a web of intrigue and deceit.

Nwelue spent five years crafting this book, which is the first installment of an ongoing series centered on the character Uche. The idea for the series was inspired by Nwelue’s Academic Advisor at the University of Oxford, and he drew on his own experiences of being close to criminals, prisoners, scammers, and investigative journalists to create a gripping and authentic narrative. In addition to Mumbai, Nwelue has also traveled to São Paulo, Brazil, to research the second installment of the series, showcasing his commitment to meticulous research and immersive storytelling.

“The Nigerian Mafia: Mumbai” is a boundary-pushing work of crime fiction that challenges literary norms and brings to life the idiosyncrasies of African literature. With its provocative themes, circular narrative, and cinematic quality, the book has the potential to be adapted into a thrilling Netflix series, capturing the attention of both literary enthusiasts and film lovers alike.

“We are proud to publish Onyeka Nwelue’s ‘The Nigerian Mafia: Mumbai,’ which is a testament to his talent as a writer and filmmaker,” said a spokesperson from Abibiman Publishing UK. “This book pushes the boundaries of the literary imagination and offers readers a riveting reading experience. We are confident that it will be well-received by audiences in the UK and beyond.”

“The Nigerian Mafia: Mumbai” will be available for purchase at Waterstones, Blackwell’s Books, and Amazon starting from May 1st, 2023. Don’t miss out on this highly anticipated release from one of Africa’s most acclaimed and provocative literary voices in recent times.
