During a joint press conference ahead of the Global African Diaspora Symposium (GADS), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), announced that Nigeria will be hosting the summit from April 27 to 28 at the ministry of foreign affairs in Abuja.
This will mark the second time an African country has hosted the symposium after Kenya in 2020. The theme of the summit is ‘Building stronger connections between Africa and the global diaspora’.
The focus will be on addressing Africa’s pressing issues and establishing necessary partnerships between important diaspora leaders in business and the professions with leaders on the African continent.
The summit will cover topics such as science and technology, agriculture, manufacturing and industry, energy, infrastructure development, tourism and culture, green energy and technology, health, information communication technology, education, finance, and economic development.
Dabiri-Erewa noted that hosting the summit aligns with the fifth aspiration of the AU Agenda 2063, which is to build a stronger cultural identity and Pan-African movement.
