The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, has been suspended with immediate effect by the Executive Committee of the party in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. The suspension was based on allegations of anti-party activities and non-payment of annual dues as stipulated in the party’s constitution.
The resolution was read by the Secretary of the party in Igyorov ward, Vanger Dooyum, who stated that Ayu’s actions and those of his associates led to the PDP’s defeat in the governorship election in his ward and local government. Ayu’s suspension was endorsed by twelve out of the seventeen exco members who accused him of not voting in the governorship and state assembly elections held on the 18th of March, 2023.
In addition, Ayu’s closest allies were accused of working for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), which the exco members believe contributed to the poor performance of the PDP in Igyorov Ward. The letter announcing the suspension was signed by the ward chairman, Kashi Philip, as well as the exco members.
