During an event to mark the one-year anniversary of Chukwuma Soludo’s tenure as governor of Anambra state on Saturday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo spoke out against what he called “Igbophobia,” which he described as anti-Igbo sentiments in Nigeria.
Obasanjo praised Soludo’s performance as his economic adviser and his excellent performance as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) but recalled that someone once told him that he had made a mistake by appointing an Igbo man and woman to the positions of CBN governor and finance minister, respectively.
He condemned such ethnic profiling, stating that it was unfair and that it needed to stop. Obasanjo called on Nigerians to make friends with those who fear them, stressing that nothing wins friendship more than being friendly.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide had earlier called on the government to look into the ethnic profiling of the Igbo in Lagos state.
