Just one day after a group of gunmen ambushed and killed a major and four soldiers in Igu village, Munya Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, the Nigerian Air Force launched a significant attack against bandits.
The airstrikes targeted the bandits’ hideout in Camace in Kazai Ward, Tsohon Kabula village, also located in Munya LGA of the state on Friday afternoon.
The bandits were reportedly regrouping after the earlier attack. The airstrikes resulted in the deaths of multiple bandits, although the exact number is unknown. The bandits had previously killed four local vigilantes during the ambush, and several others, including soldiers, were injured and are receiving treatment at a government health facility in Minna. Some of those who had been kidnapped earlier managed to escape during the military operation.
According to a source close to Kamace village, out of the 35 motorcycles seen in the area, only seven escaped, with the rest destroyed in the airstrikes.
The bandits were hit in two different locations, and the first group was trying to take cover at Kamace Primary School when they were struck, resulting in the destruction of over 30 bandits and their motorcycles.
The second group was killed while attempting to evacuate their colleague’s bodies. The bandits are now said to be in disarray, fleeing to various locations to seek safety. The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Umar, confirmed the air raid but declined to comment further.
