The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) fined TVC 2 million naira for airing a hate speech given by Bola Tinubu, a presidential candidate, during his campaign in Anambra State on January 31.
The speech attacked Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party. Tinubu’s campaign mouthpiece, Festus Keyamo, was also cited for making derogatory remarks against former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar.
The NBC accused TVC, which is owned by the APC presidential candidate, of airing more APC news than other parties and of allowing hate speech and inflammatory comments to be broadcast on the channel.
TVC was sanctioned for violating NBC codes and must pay a fine of 2 million naira.
