Abu Dhabi, UAE – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman met on Monday to strengthen fraternal relations and cooperation between their nations. The discussions focused on bolstering economic ties, joint Gulf action, and navigating regional challenges.
The leaders, described as “brothers” in the press release, highlighted the deep historical and social bonds between the UAE and Oman. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed emphasized the importance of these ties, crediting the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sultan Qaboos for establishing a foundation of “goodwill and wisdom.”
The meeting focused on economic cooperation, a key pillar of the bilateral relationship. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with existing partnerships and a shared ambition to explore new opportunities, particularly in renewable energy and infrastructure projects. A railway project connecting Oman to the UAE’s network and increased electrical interconnectivity were cited as promising initiatives.
Regional security and stability were also on the agenda. The leaders acknowledged the challenges facing the region and stressed the importance of “joint Gulf action.” Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed advocated for collective action among Gulf Cooperation Council countries to safeguard regional interests.
Both leaders expressed a desire for a future defined by broader cooperation, fostering economic growth and fulfilling the aspirations of their people. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq signed the guestbook, expressing his appreciation for the warm reception and highlighting his hope for continued cooperation between the two nations.
The high-level meeting was attended by prominent officials from both countries, including UAE’s Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister, and Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs and Foreign Minister.
