Pretoria, South Africa – April 16, 2024 – South Africa is actively shaping the conversation on the future of multilateralism, the system of international cooperation involving multiple countries. Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Alvin Botes, recently participated in a reflection group discussing a draft report on the topic.
This report is part of a global study commissioned by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in New York. The project aims to understand how G20 nations and their internal political figures view the current state of multilateralism and their vision for its future.

South Africa’s contribution to the study comes from Dr. Sithembile Mbete, Director of Programs at Futurelect and a senior lecturer in political science at the University of Pretoria. Dr. Mbete’s case study delves into South Africa’s perspective on this critical issue.
