Ramaphosa’s comments come after a proposed bill in the US House of Representatives called for a review of the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Additionally, South Africa’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has drawn scrutiny.
The President emphasized South Africa’s commitment to a non-aligned foreign policy, prioritizing peace, security, and development across Africa and globally. He highlighted their history of constructive dialogue with the US, even on contentious issues like the recent docking of a Russian ship in Simonstown.
Ramaphosa defended South Africa’s stance at the International Court of Justice regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He stressed their pursuit of an inclusive peace settlement and adherence to international law.
