Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan have finalized a historic agreement that will lift the visa ban on Nigerian travelers and restore flight schedules between the two countries.
The agreement, which was signed in Abu Dhabi on Monday, also includes a framework for billions of dollars in new investments from the UAE into the Nigerian economy.
“This is a major breakthrough for our two countries,” Tinubu said in a statement. “It will boost trade and investment, create jobs, and strengthen our relationship.”

Under the terms of the agreement, the UAE will immediately lift the visa ban on Nigerian travelers. Both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines will also immediately resume flight schedules into and out of Nigeria.
The agreement also includes a framework for investments in multiple sectors, including defense, agriculture, and infrastructure. The UAE has committed to investing billions of dollars in these sectors over the next few years.
In addition, the two countries have agreed to establish a joint foreign exchange liquidity program. This program will help stabilize the Nigerian currency and make it easier for businesses to trade with the UAE.
The agreement is a major victory for Tinubu, who has been working to improve relations between Nigeria and the UAE since he became president in 2023. It is also a sign of the strong economic ties between the two countries.
