Kenya, China Bolster Ties in Wang YI’s Visit

Nairobi, July 22, 2023 – The Republic of Kenya’s Minister for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Alfred Mutua, announced on Saturday the successful conclusion of a bilateral meeting with H.E. Wang YI, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Commission for Chinese Foreign Ministry. The meeting took place during H.E. Wang YI’s three-day official visit to Kenya.

The visit signifies the deep-rooted political goodwill shared between H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto of Kenya and H.E. President Xi JINPING of China, solidifying the long-standing friendship and strengthening the bilateral ties between the two nations.

Dr. Mutua emphasized the historical significance of this meeting, representing 60 years of robust friendship between Kenya and China. Over the years, this friendship has fostered extensive cooperation on various fronts, including national development, infrastructural projects, trade and investment, as well as collaborations on matters of regional peace and security.

During the meeting, H.E. Wang YI acknowledged and appreciated the strong bonds of friendship between Kenya and China. He further emphasized China’s commitment to a policy based on mutual respect for Kenya, acknowledging Kenya’s prominent role in African and global affairs.

Praising Kenya’s environmental credentials, H.E. Wang YI pledged China’s support for the upcoming African Climate Summit scheduled to be held in Nairobi in September 2023. This commitment underscores the growing partnership between the two nations in addressing crucial global challenges, such as climate change.
