Deputy Prime Minister Honors Southern Africa’s Heroic Women

Maputo, Mozambique – On Thursday, July 6, 2023, Hon. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, graced the UNESCO event titled HERStory: Heroines in the Liberation Struggles in Southern Africa.”

The event, held in Maputo, Mozambique, brought together esteemed dignitaries and experts to shed light on the remarkable contributions of women during the arduous fight against colonialism and apartheid in Southern Africa. Hon. Nandi-Ndaitwah was accompanied by H.E. Nicklaas Kandjii, the Republic of Namibia’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, and Hon. Peter Katjavivi, Speaker of Parliament and Chairperson of the Southern African Research and Documentation Centre (SARDC), and Patron of the Southern African Liberation History Programme.

During the event, Hon. Nandi-Ndaitwah actively participated in a panel discussion centered around the theme: “Liberation History through the eyes of women: the role and contribution of women in the liberation struggle against colonialism and apartheid.” The panel aimed to highlight the often-overlooked narratives of heroic women who played pivotal roles in the fight for freedom and equality across the region.
