Zambian High Commissioner Presents Credentials to Mozambican President

Maputo, July 7th, 2023 – Her Excellency Ms. Mary Chirwa, officially assumed her role as the High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia to Mozambique after presenting her Letters of Credence to President Filipe Nyusi. The ceremony, held in Maputo, marked a significant moment in strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two nations.

President Nyusi congratulated Ms. Chirwa on her appointment as High Commissioner and assured her of his office’s full support, along with the support of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. He highlighted the fruitful discussions that took place during President Hakainde Hichilema’s state visit to Mozambique, emphasizing the shared interests and ambitious cooperation goals set by the two leaders.

Economic Diplomacy emerged as a key focus during the discussions, with both Mozambique and Zambia committed to enhancing trade and investment opportunities for their citizens. President Nyusi emphasized the importance of implementing agreements that promote bilateral trade and investment, paving the way for closer economic collaboration between the two sister Republics.

In addition to economic cooperation, President Nyusi highlighted the ongoing bilateral, regional, continental, and multilateral collaboration between Mozambique and Zambia. These collaborative efforts aim to contribute to political stability, socio-economic development, and security in the region.

Expressing her gratitude to President Nyusi, Ms. Chirwa conveyed special greetings from President Hichilema. She affirmed her commitment to work towards the implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit and expressed her eagerness to explore new areas of cooperation between the two countries. Ms. Chirwa also emphasized the importance of maintaining strong communication and collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen the bilateral relations between Zambia and Mozambique.

The historical ties between Zambia and Mozambique date back to the liberation struggle, where Zambia played a crucial role. Over the years, the two countries have maintained cordial relations, collaborating in areas such as trade, transport, energy, and agriculture.
