Malindza, Eswatini – On Saturday, the Ministry of Home Affairs, alongside various partners, gathered at the Malindza Refugee Camp to commemorate World Refugee Day. The event centered around the theme “Hope Away From Home” and aimed to shed light on the experiences of refugees and the importance of providing support and protection to those in need.
During the commemoration, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Stephanie Sandoval delivered a speech highlighting the United States’ commitment to refugees and the significant role of humanitarian assistance and humane migration policies. Sandoval emphasized the monumental work undertaken by the Eswatini Government and its partners in providing and maintaining services for refugees across the country, both within and outside the Malindza Refugee Camp.

Sandoval stated, “The United States supports the monumental work of the Eswatini Government and its partners to provide and maintain services for refugees around the country—including those inside and outside of Malindza. I urge Eswatini to keep its commitment to protect and provide for these vulnerable people—people who come, not out of choice, but to find safety and security for themselves and their families.”
She further highlighted that refugees, humanitarian assistance, and humane migration policies are top priorities for the United States. As the largest single provider of humanitarian assistance globally, the U.S. actively collaborates with key organizations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and non-governmental partners like World Vision.
