Fiji and New Zealand will continue collaborating on common interests

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka, met with New Zealand’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Honourable Nanaia Mahuta, yesterday, where they discussed various matters of mutual interest and cooperation. The meeting marked their continued efforts to strengthen the relationship between Fiji and New Zealand.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Rabuka provided an update on the progress made in discussions for further collaboration between the two countries since their last meeting in March this year. Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive developments and emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties.

Prime Minister Rabuka took the opportunity to inform Minister Mahuta about recent national events in Fiji, highlighting how these occasions served as opportunities to unite the nation and celebrate its rich history, diverse cultures, and traditions. The discussions also focused on promoting cultural exchange and preserving traditional practices between Fiji and New Zealand.

To facilitate this cultural exchange, Prime Minister Rabuka announced that the Minister for iTaukei Affairs would soon be visiting New Zealand. The purpose of the visit will be to explore potential partnership opportunities that can further strengthen the ties between the two countries.

Honourable Rabuka expressed Fiji’s eagerness for increased engagement and collaboration through the Duavata Partnership. He emphasized the importance of addressing issues that would positively impact the people of both nations. Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of maintaining a united stance on common regional challenges, particularly in light of the ongoing geostrategic competition in the Pacific region.

Fiji looks forward to continuous collaboration and engagements with New Zealand to enhance bilateral relations and further mutual interests. Minister Mahuta expressed her gratitude to Hon. Rabuka for the productive meeting and reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s priorities under the Duavata Partnership Agreement.

The meeting between the Prime Minister and the New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister signifies the ongoing efforts to strengthen the bond between Fiji and New Zealand. Both nations remain committed to deepening their partnership and working together on shared goals, guided by the principles of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
