June 6 – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt has commenced a three-leg African tour, with scheduled visits to Angola, Zambia, and Mozambique. The President’s tour in the Southern Africa region aims to strengthen engagement and coordination with African nations, foster closer cooperation in economic, trade, and investment domains, and demonstrate Egypt’s prioritization of African issues in its foreign policy.
According to Counselor Ahmad Fahmy, the spokesperson for the Presidency, President El-Sisi will engage in a series of bilateral talks with African leaders to explore mechanisms for enhancing bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the respective countries. The discussions will also focus on addressing concerns specific to the African continent and addressing regional developments of mutual interest.
A key objective of the tour is to advance joint African action, promote the development process, and bolster economic integration across the continent. President El-Sisi’s visit to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, will include participation in the 22nd summit of The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). This summit holds significance as Egypt will formally hand over the bloc’s rotating chairmanship to Zambia.
The President’s engagements during the tour are aimed at deepening ties and exploring opportunities for collaboration in various sectors. By strengthening relationships and fostering dialogue, Egypt aims to contribute to the overall development and progress of the African continent.
