Cape Town, South Africa – The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, is set to host the highly anticipated Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Relations on June 1, 2023. The event will take place in the beautiful city of Cape Town, serving as a platform for BRICS Foreign Ministers to engage in discussions surrounding regional and global developments.

As the Chair of the BRICS Ministerial Meeting, Minister Pandor will carry forward the policy of inclusive engagement by extending invitations to 15 Foreign Ministers from Africa and other nations in the global south. These esteemed ministers will participate in a special gathering called the “Friends of BRICS” meeting, scheduled to be held on June 2, 2023.

The Ministerial Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Relations represents a pivotal moment for the BRICS alliance, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. These emerging economies play a crucial role in shaping the global political and economic landscape. The meeting in Cape Town presents an invaluable opportunity for these nations to reflect on recent developments and foster greater cooperation.

Prior to the ministerial meetings, a gathering of Sherpas and Sous-Sherpas will be held from May 29 to May 30, 2023. This preliminary meeting will lay the groundwork and set the stage for the discussions that will take place during the main event.

The South African government, under the leadership of Minister Pandor, is committed to fostering dialogue and collaboration among BRICS members and the broader international community. By inviting Foreign Ministers from Africa and the global south to the “Friends of BRICS” meeting, the event aims to strengthen ties between BRICS and other regions, promoting mutual understanding and collective progress.

The Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Relations in Cape Town signifies the continued relevance and influence of the BRICS alliance in shaping global affairs.
