Gambian Foreign Minister receives Egyptian Ambassador, discusses bilateral relations

Banjul, 22 May 2023 – In a cordial meeting held on Wednesday, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, His Excellency Dr. Mamadou Tangara, welcomed the newly appointed Ambassador of Egypt to the Republic of The Gambia, H.E. Mr. Aref. The purpose of the meeting was to receive the copies of Letters of Credence from Ambassador Aref, officially marking the beginning of his diplomatic mission in the country.

During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Tangara extended his warm congratulations to Ambassador Aref on his appointment and expressed his assurance of the continuous collaboration and support of the Government of The Gambia throughout his tenure. The minister emphasized the significance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, highlighting the shared values and common interests that underpin the existing brotherly relations.

Ambassador Aref, in turn, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and conveyed his commitment to further enhancing the ties between Egypt and The Gambia. Both diplomats engaged in constructive discussions on various areas of mutual interest, exploring opportunities for bilateral cooperation and partnership.

The meeting served as an important platform for reaffirming the strong bond between The Gambia and Egypt. It underscored the shared commitment to fostering friendly relations and deepening collaboration in diverse fields, including trade, investment, culture, education, and tourism.

As the Ambassador of Egypt commences his diplomatic mission in The Gambia, he will work closely with the Gambian government to explore avenues for closer cooperation and seek opportunities for mutual growth and development. The fruitful exchange between H.E. Dr. Tangara and Ambassador Aref bodes well for the future of the bilateral relationship and sets the stage for further engagements aimed at strengthening ties and promoting the interests of both nations.

The Government of The Gambia and the Embassy of Egypt look forward to a successful and productive tenure for Ambassador Aref, as he assumes his responsibilities in promoting diplomacy, fostering understanding, and nurturing the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
