Somali foreign minister joins Arab Summit preparatory meeting in Jeddah

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Yesterday, on May 17, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, His Excellency Mr. Absher Omar Jama, participated in the opening session of the preparatory meeting of the Council of the University of Arab Countries in the city of Jeddah. The meeting sets the stage for the upcoming thirty-second regular session of the Arab Summit, scheduled to take place on Friday.

The distinguished gathering, hosted in Saudi Arabia, brought together prominent Arab diplomats and officials to discuss key regional issues and lay the groundwork for productive discussions at the Arab Summit. His Excellency Mr. Absher Omar Jama was among the high-level participants who shared insights and perspectives during the opening session.

During the meeting, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, who previously chaired his country’s summit, handed over the chairmanship of this session to Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister. This transition of leadership symbolized the continuity and collective efforts of Arab nations in addressing shared challenges and fostering cooperation across the region.

The participation of the Somali Foreign Minister in the preparatory meeting highlighted Somalia’s commitment to regional collaboration and engagement within the Arab world.
