Accra, 12th May 2023 – The Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, has called for enhanced trade relations between Ghana and Pakistan. The appeal came during a meeting held on Friday, 12th May 2023, between Hon. Ampratwum-Sarpong and a Pakistani Business Delegation, led by Amb. Eric Owusu Boateng, Ghana’s Ambassador to Iran with concurrent accreditation to Pakistan.
Welcoming the delegation to Ghana, Deputy Minister Ampratwum-Sarpong took the opportunity to introduce Ghana’s business environment to the visiting representatives. He emphasized the numerous investment opportunities available in the country, highlighting the potential for mutual benefit through increased trade and collaboration.
H.E. Farhat Ayesha, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Ghana, acknowledged the significance of Ghana as Pakistan’s largest trade partner in West Africa. She noted that the current volume of trade between the two countries stands at US$ 67 million, emphasizing the potential for further growth and expansion in bilateral trade.
Contributing to the discussion, Umar Shahid Butt, the Vice Consul of Ghana in Pakistan, underscored Ghana’s stable political environment, high literacy rate, and skilled workforce, positioning the country as an ideal destination for business ventures. He stressed the need to strengthen trade ties between Pakistan and Ghana, particularly in light of the challenges faced by developing economies amidst the ongoing pandemic and the Ukraine conflict.
The 14-member Business Delegation from Pakistan embarked on this visit to explore the diverse business opportunities available in Ghana. This delegation marks a significant milestone as the first major Pakistani delegation to visit Ghana since the reopening of the Pakistani High Commission in the country almost a year ago, following a 30-year absence.
The meeting between Deputy Minister Ampratwum-Sarpong and the Pakistani Business Delegation emphasized the shared commitment to fostering stronger trade relations and economic cooperation between Ghana and Pakistan. It highlighted the potential for leveraging each country’s strengths and resources to drive mutual growth and prosperity.
As both nations continue to explore avenues for collaboration and capitalize on the existing trade partnership, it is anticipated that the visit of the Pakistani Business Delegation will pave the way for further engagement, fostering deeper ties and unlocking new business opportunities between Ghana and Pakistan.
