Malawi’s foreign affairs minister holds meeting with UNICEF representative

Lilongwe, 17th May 2023 – Honourable Nancy Tembo, Member of Parliament and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Malawi, had a meeting with Dr. Gianfranco Rotligliano, UNICEF Resident Representative on 17th May 2023. The discussions primarily revolved around UNICEF’s support to Malawi in the social sector, with a particular focus on addressing the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

During the meeting, Minister Nancy Tembo and Dr. Gianfranco Rotligliano engaged in fruitful discussions regarding the assistance provided by UNICEF to Malawi. The impact of Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which had affected the nation, was a key concern of the discussion.

Recognizing the crucial role of UNICEF in supporting the well-being and development of Malawian children and families, Minister Nancy Tembo expressed gratitude for the organization’s dedicated efforts. Both parties reiterated their commitment to working together to provide essential services, including healthcare, nutrition, education, and protection, to those affected by the cyclone. They emphasized the need for concerted efforts and resources to address the immediate and long-term impact of the disaster on the well-being of Malawian children and their families.

The meeting served as a platform to discuss strategies for strengthening collaboration between the Government of Malawi and UNICEF, ensuring a more effective and coordinated response to the social challenges faced by the nation.

Minister Nancy Tembo expressed her appreciation for UNICEF’s continued support and affirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with the organization to improve the lives of Malawian children and promote their overall development.
