Damascus, May 10, 2023 – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has received an invitation from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and King of Saudi Arabia, to participate in the upcoming Arab League Council meeting at the summit level. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Jeddah on May 19.

The invitation was conveyed to President al-Assad by Nayef Al-Sudairi, the Saudi Ambassador to Jordan. President al-Assad expressed his gratitude for the invitation and conveyed his greetings to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He emphasized the significance of the upcoming Arab summit in Saudi Arabia and how it could bolster joint Arab action towards realizing the aspirations of the Arab peoples.

The Arab League had suspended Syria’s membership in 2011, following the civil war that erupted in the country. However, in an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League foreign ministers held in Cairo, member countries unanimously agreed to lift Syria’s suspension from the organization.

The decision marked a significant step towards restoring Syria’s place in the Arab League and represented a positive development in the country’s ongoing efforts towards regional integration and stability.

The participation of Syria in the Arab League Council meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for leaders to engage in constructive dialogue and cooperation towards addressing regional challenges and strengthening joint Arab action.

As the Arab League Council meeting approaches, the international community awaits further developments, hoping for constructive dialogue, and progress towards peace and stability in the region.
