The Minister of State for International Cooperation, Her Excellency Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, visited New Zealand on May 1 and 2 to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields. During the visit, Her Excellency met with several officials to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and developing investment and economic opportunities.
Her Excellency had meetings with Her Excellency Nanaia Mahuta, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, His Excellency Damien O’Connor, the Minister of Commerce, and His Excellency James Shaw, the Minister of Climate Change. They discussed ways to promote economic and trade cooperation between the UAE and New Zealand. Her Excellency also expressed her desire for New Zealand to participate in the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will take place in Dubai in November.
Her Excellency also met with Jenny Salesa, Assistant Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Trade, to discuss several issues of common interest, including trade and cultural cooperation.
Her Excellency also held meetings with business leaders in the food, sustainability, and innovation sectors to explore ways to enhance trade cooperation between the two countries. Her Excellency emphasized the importance of the private sector in promoting economic cooperation between the UAE and New Zealand. Her Excellency highlighted the areas of agriculture, renewable energy, and health as vital areas of cooperation.
The New Zealand officials expressed their appreciation for the role Emirates Airline plays in connecting their people and companies to the rest of the world through seven weekly flights.
At the end of her visit, Her Excellency Mahuta held a dinner banquet in honor of Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy and her delegation. The visit served to strengthen the bond between the UAE and New Zealand and opened new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
